Host a live session using Zoom

You can schedule a virtual meeting using the Zoom video conferencing application. This will allow you to present a lecture online at the same time your class is scheduled.

• Instructor Equipment Needed

  • Computer with a microphone (required) and webcam (optional)

• Steps to Implement

  • Option 1 - From the Zoom Website

    1. Create a Zoom session via http://sjsu.zoom.us/.
    2. Send an announcement or email [pdf] to your class list announcing the virtual class session and including the URL to join.
    3. Record your Zoom session, so students who can’t join in real time can watch it later.

    Option 2 - From within Canvas

    1. On the left navigation menu of the Canvas course, a Zoom link appears.
    2. Click on the Authenticate button.
    3. Click on the Schedule a Session button and enter the session details.
    4. Finally, click Save.
    5. When the session is created, it will:
       (1) send a Canvas inbox message to all students with the meeting details. This information also gets forwarded out to the email linked to Canvas.
       (2) adds the session on the Canvas course calendar
       (3) adds the session to the Canvas Syllabus page
       (4) adds the session in the students' To Do list

You can schedule a virtual meeting using the built-in Canvas video conferencing application. This will allow you to present a lecture online at the same time your class is scheduled.

• Steps to Implement
  • 1. Create a Canvas Conference Session by clicking on Conferences from the left navigation menu of the Canvas course.
    2. An announcement is automatically sent to all students in the Canvas course.
    3. Start the session.
    4. Canvas Conference Recordings are only available within the Canvas course for 14 days.

You can schedule a virtual meeting using the Google Hangouts Meet video conferencing application. This will allow you to present a lecture online at the same time your class is scheduled.

       1. Create an announcement.
       2. Click on the rich content editor.
       3. Click on Google Hangouts Meet.
       4. Authenticate and a session is created.
       5. Add additional details and send.
    2. From outside Canvas
       1. Create a session.
    3. Send an announcement, Canvas email, or email to your classlist/group announcing the virtual class session and including the URL to join.
    4. Record your session, so students/others who can’t join in real time can watch it later.

Deliver your class asynchronously using Canvas

All courses at 菠菜网lol正规平台 are provided with a Canvas course shell. Canvas will allow you to post announcements, share files, create assignments, host discussions, conduct chats, and continue communication with your students.

• Steps to Implement
  • 1. Log into 菠菜网lol正规平台 Canvas via http://sjsu.instructure.com.
    2. Access the course from the Canvas Dashboard.
    3. Publish the Course, so students have immediate access.
    4. (Optional) Adjust the visibility of your Canvas course so students who have not enrolled yet can view it. 
    5. Add Files to your Canvas course (e.g., PowerPoints, documents, etc...)
    6. Post an announcement to your students.
    7. Create discussions for students to interact online.
    8. Create assignments, so you students can submit materials online.
    9. Grade assignments online using Speedgrader and the online gradebook to provide timely feedback.

Additional Option - Record a Lecture 

Camtasia allows you to record your on-screen activity or upload videos. You can customize and edit content, and share your videos with your students. You can create video tutorials of your screen and add effects such as animations, sounds, or quizzes. You can record demonstrations, such as labs.

    2. Download and install the software on your computer.

Additional Option - Conduct a Virtual Lab

If unable to conduct a lab in a physical space, there are opportunities to provide online simulations.  California State University instructors can add Labster simulations into their learning management system course. View the CSU Labster page for information on access, training and setting up Labster for your course.  eCampus has access to the software Mathematica, which can be used for visualization activities. In addition, there are other open-source/free resources.

Canvas Studio

Canvas Studio is a video creation and editing tool that's found right in Canvas. Use it to create screencasts, webcam recordings and interactive video quizzes. It's easy to add your videos to Canvas announcements, assignments, pages, or quizzes. You can also adhere to accessibility standards by captioning your videos in Canvas Studio.

• How do I access Canvas Studio?

  • You can access Canvas Studio in the Global Navigation bar on Canvas or in any course you teach. If you don’t see it in the left hand menu, click settings, then navigation, and enable Studio.

• How do I record on Canvas Studio?

• How can I add captions to my video?

  • After recording a video in Canvas Studio or uploading a video file, click on the video, click on captions, select the language and request the captions. Canvas Studio will generate the captions. Then you can edit and publish them.
